Camtasia Q&A with Lon Naylor Webinar Replay
July 1, 2009
I conducted a special webinar event on 6/25/2009 with a couple of goals in mind.
1. As I get ready to launch Screencast Profits version 2, I wanted to find out what kinds of things were giving members problems, You know…what questions did they have. The best product value I can create is providing answers to those kinds of questions and solutions to problems people are having in creating Camtasia videos!
2. I get questions all the time and thought that having a live event where I could just address issues on the minds of my members would be fun and a good way to say “Thanks for being a member”.
The event went great except for one little (OK…maybe a big) hitch.
About 50 minutes into the deal my brand new, wiz bang, Intel I7-3TB of disks-12GB of RAM-64-bit, laugh in the face of death, live on the razor’s edge computer….BLUE SCREENED!
Ouch! I did manage to salvage the recording up until that fateful moment so here’s what I got:
Resources From Webinar (in order of discussion):
Logitech ClearChat Wireless Headset – This is the mic I am currently using for my webinar events
Camtasia 6 In-depth Review - Not sure if Camtasia 6 is worth the upgrade price? I did a full review of new features and why I decided to upgrade.
Camtasia Version Comparison page - Here’s a page that will let you compare your current version to the latest Camtasia version side-by-side.
Jing – This handy little tool probably won’t replace Camtasia but for short videos in High Quality for upload to YouTube the Pro version ($14.95 per year) is interesting. Plus, you can do screen image captures.
Kiosk Web Hosting – I use Kiosk as my web host. Great service & support make a big difference!
Amazon S3 – I store and deliver my video content on the mighty Amazon servers for pennies.
Sony Vegas Movie Studio Pro – When it comes to editing videos, Camtasia is OK…but quickly hampers my ability to do real editing. I reach for a full featured video editor to do almost all of my work in the edit bay.
Wacom Bamboo Graphics Tablet – Great tools for adding some interesting visuals and interactivity to your work by “drawing” on the screen in a whiteboard fashion.
Annotate Pro – I use this tool with my graphics board to select pens, colors, boxes, arrows, etc.
for writing & drawing into my video content.
Give Away of the Day – Everyday, a new piece of free software. Sometimes there are really nice utilities & programs you can add to your toolbox.
Cool Iris – Wow. I’m playing with this awesome app to create some dramatic visual effects.
Audio Technica AT202 USB Studio Microphone – A great value, outstanding quality. When you’re ready to get serious about your voice narration without complicated external gear, a studio quality USB condenser mic is hard to beat.

Lon-
Thank you for the valuable screencast webinar and info you continue to
share.
I was wondering if you could get into and cover steps to host your videos
using Amazon S3?
Thanks again and great stuff on Camtasia.
Have a great day!

Thanks Adriel!
Yes, Amazon S3 would be a good topic. In fact, there is a new piece to that system called the Amazon Cloudfront that I am learning about. I’ll put it on the list!

Hi Lon – Excellent webinar! Even with it cut short it was still a lot of great content. Each piece will be helpful towards getting things done.
Looking forward to Screencast Profits 2.0. Will you be doing a mailing to current members to let them know how this affects their membership?
Thanks,
Shawn

Hi Lon,
Great info, very informative. I have always struggled with editing video’s within Camtasia, I am going to check out Sony Vegas Movie Studio Pro.
I am curios about your audio recording do you use the narration feature within camtasia to record audio or do you use something within Sony Vegas to record your narration? My biggest issue with CS is that you can’t pause your audio recording like you can with your video recording, the same rules should apply seems like such a basic think I am not sure why they don’t allow you to just pause during your voice narration?
Basically just want to know what you use to record your narration do you do it within Camtasia?
Another silly question, can you take a Camtasia project into Sony Vegas and then back into camtasia to add additional call outs etc?
Thanks Lon your the best!
Thanks,
Tony

Lon:
In my book you are the greatest. You not only entertain, but you teach! You make all of us want to be like you when we grow up! At 65, I’m still growing!
Lon, you are a world of information and the day I met you was one of the best days of my life! You not only teach, but you make it fun and you lead by example.
The webinar was fantastic ~ even with the glitch. We all know that glitches happen, my only regret was that I was not recording as it would have helped you out.
I’m looking forward to your next webinar, teleseminar, whatever!
I apologize it took me a while to get here. With some health issues it’s been taking my time for things that are not as enjoyable! But I’m fine, and ready to do your teachings justice.

Lon You continue to be My favorite teacher for creating videos, I not to long ago did My first power point, which is link loved to this comment. I would love to see a training on amazon s3 storage when You get a chance, in the mean time I will do My own research on it. Youtube is too uncertain.
