ADC Video Case Study – 3

Date August 24, 2010

Wow! Lots of great reaction and positive comments about this video case study series so far! I’m having fun really dissecting a few things and sharing results with everyone.

Be sure you are watching the AffiliateDotCom Launch Video Series by clicking HERE.

If you haven’t seen the first 2 installments, you can catch up on all the content & commentary HERE: Video Case Studies

I’m splitting out some of the content here with one video focused on just the video “reverse engineering” tips and another on the Strategy and Marketing take-aways I have so far.

Video 1: Custom Images and PowerPoint Tips

Oh…if you liked the PPT template I gave you last time, you’ll LOVE what I’ll create FOR you just for leaving a comment – check out the video:

height=”306″>

And here’s a really quick ‘n’ dirty list of KEY elements to think about no matter what kind of video you want to make…

Video Strategy Lessons Not To Miss

  1. Of course, the audio quality rocks from start to finish. You gotta have good mics picking up the sound close to the actors and any kind of built-in camera mic will NOT cut it…
  2. I’d wager a fair amount of cash that this is completely scripted from start to finish…every word. There is NO real winging it here because that has NO place in a professional production. And the bigger reason this is done is because, the message is king!

Yes, this is a sweet, slick video n all but the video is just the delivery vehicle for a very carefully crafted set of messages!

Think of this script as the sales copy because it absolutely is…

What Mike and Chris say…how they say and when they say it is all critical to this video series ending up doing its actual job. Converting viewers into customers.

    A script = sales copy.

  3. Notice how the videos switch back and forth between camera footage and screen capture clips…I think the one big takeaway here is to understand that these videos are created using “scenes” just like you would expect from a high end production.

I bring this point up because lots of folks, especially Camtasia users, tend to think that the way you should record is…fire up the recorder…start recording…record, record, record…all the way to the bitter end of your content and then stop.

That’s certainly one way to do it…but it won’t often yield professional results…

It’s OK to have more than one recording file in your clip bin! If you’re capturing more than one thing with Camtasia, say a website, then demoing an application, a LOT of times it’s much easier to focus…on one thing at a time, get a good clean source recording and then move on to the next scene…

Of course, this isn’t ALWAYS necessary…you can switch from one thing to the next while recording or use the pause key and jump around but…

I just want to point out that a complex project like this is likely done in small manageable chunks because it actually cuts way down on the amount of editing to be done in the long run.

Thanks everyone for all the great comments! It really kinda makes everything worthwhile, ya know what I mean?

To “incent” you to participate, I’ve got a deal for you:

I will create a custom Computer Monitor image – like Andy uses in the Video Tips clip above – just for YOU with YOUR web page in it.

Here’s how to get yours:

1. Leave a comment and be SURE to include a web address of any page you want to appear “in” the computer monitor image. I will take a screenshot of that page…pop it into the image and post a link to it here for everyone who does so!

2. Not mandatory but…if you could Tweet, Facebook, or use your favorite Share method to spread the word about this post…it would be kindly appreciated.

That’s it!

A sweet, custom image for you to use as my thank you for being so awesome…

Thanks

Lon

Hey Lon – your message is always AWESOME and content rich. There has never been an email or post that you have left that I couldn’t take action on that moment – thanks. Now I just need to get to 1/16th of your skill level to use it all. Thanks again. Derek (PS: excited to see my site on the computer screen – going to try it as an ending slide or transition slide for my vids)

    Hi Lon,

Thank you so much for taking time to create these videos to share all these content with us. I learn from you in 2 ways, 1 by observing what you teach, 2 by observing the way you teach. Just by watching you, I got a few new creative ideas for doing camtasia videos. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks,

Great looking slide! Adds a very credible effect to the presentation. It would be very effective to use as a “Call to Action” (that is, Order NOW.)

That’s very nice idea to show my business idea (professional screencasts). Going to make some video explaining my service using this “monitor-technic”.

To have a static image inside monitor is pretty cool, but to get a real video – a screencast – inside it would be a killer feature.

I’ll take a look at videohive.net (from same company as graphicriver).

    Hi Lon

Although I’ve been on your list for a while – Video production is one of those areas that I never really came to terms with although I own photoshop and Camtasia.

I usually have a messa around sometimes to manipulate my images but thats about it.
When I saw your email today I thought let me just check this out and I was quite excited at the way you manipulated that image – just was not aware that action scripts were available to do these whizz effects like that -
You Video was superb – Thanks a bunch – really appreciate it.

Looks like you’ve got me hooked – and I’m going to have to go and check out the rest of your site now – Talk about going off on a tangent! But I guess Its all education and learning – well thats what I’ve decided it is!

    Thanks Lon

    Hamant

Excellent practical how to information. I’ve often wondered how that andled screen effect is done. I don’t have Photoshop, so I would like to take you up on your offer of doing one for me

    Best regards

    Thanks again Lon

You show some cool effects. I use Screenflow (is that swearing!) but most of what you teach translates over – so great stuff.

Do the animations from PresenterMedia work within Camtasia?

Did you get your leggy blonde yet?

    You Rock!

Tweeted your last post yesterday am and must say again I love the content you have given us with this series of videos. Thanks for sharing them with everyone.

They are short with alot of meat in each video to digest. And I don’t feel overwhelmed with information afterwords. Not to mention the chuckle I get or at the very least a smile with each video you share.

    Great stuff…

    Keep it coming!

This is very cool Lon. I had been looking at creating a Facebook business page and this example you’ve demonstrated in this video with a computer monitor showing a website was exactly what I wanted to show on my Facebook Page, but didn’t know how to do it.

Makes me wish I had had Photoshop, but alas I do not. ;-)

    Thanks,
