Frank Kern Video Squeeze
March 9, 2010
Well, it’s time to gird your loins for the newest round of super guru promotin’!
Anyway, I’ve got some thoughts on the process he’s using with video for his list building and launch that I think are worth noting.
Let me be very clear here: I do NOT know what this is all about, I don’t own it, I’m not recommending it one way or the other.
But as a fan of Frank’s methods in the past, I will tell you what I DO like:
I am lovin’ the use of video and the viral promo tactic they are using.
1. The first step in the process lands you on a video squeeze page that has Frank giving away a presentation called Core Influence of really good quality in exchange, of course, for creating an account which puts you in the launch sequence. Standard stuff…
2. What happens next is pretty cool. Immediately after signing up, you are put on a page with an affiliate link for you and a video that explains that: "If you send out that link and get x number of referrals, you can get an extra video called Core Influence 2. This is an automatic built-in reward incentive. Awesome idea!
If you’re a student of excellent ideas like me, you can follow the flow also by clicking my affiliate link (of course!) here:
Seriously, you are going to see all kinds of the standard hype emails of how somebody made $37,394.42 in blah blah days or got a 57% blah blah conversion rate…geez, I’m sick of all that crap!
My take? Don’t worry about the junk…follow and study the process. It’s brilliant!
I really don’t even know what the actual product will be here. Don’t care. Not recommending it. I’m only using my affiliate link here so I can see the cool little reward that’s part of the process. I suggest you do the same thing if it’s applicable for your friends or lists.
The Core Influence videos are excellent content and worth the watch.
Frank does a sweet job with video…
I’m interested to see how effective this tactic will end up being and also hearing what your thoughts on it might be.
What do you think? Leave a comment!
Have a great week,
Lon Naylor

Hey Lon,
Awesome post. I’m probably in the minority of the IM community since I don’t buy or use Frank’s stuff but your post is right on. The gurus, especially Frank Kern should be studied. Don’t do what they say, do what they do.
It’s cool to see all that good NLP stuff Dr. Harlan Kilstein talked about at MSC being used by Frank on his video.
Thanks for reminding me to study this type of launch. I had already shut it down and was ignoring it due to the barrage of emails about it but you’re 100% right. This process should be studied since he’s on the cutting edge when it come to getting people to buy his stuff.

Hello Lon,
I’ll play the game and I sign up under your link, even if I am not sure to continue the process.
Why?
The lists are French and they are afraid that once spoke in English.
If I play the game also means that you can continue the adventure and give us your comments I always find lacking in common sense. Thanks to your explanation that I translate even with google translation, I rush my eyes closed because I trust in your intuition and your comments.
Go! Give us, us French, the desire to go beyond the boundaries of language and play in the big league.
For you to go away, I’ll send my list to your blog so that everyone can take the decision it seems to be the best.
Greeting to you maestro.
Christian – France

Hey Lon,
I absolutely agree about watching the Guru’s launches as a learning experience! It’s pretty amazing what you can pick up sometimes. However, I come back to the saying “A confuses mind says NO!” and that’s where I am with Frank’s stuff right now.
Your Email is the 2nd one promoting Frank’s stuff that I opened and followed, and I got 2 different sets of information! Huh? Now on top of that, the squeeze video says “get 3 people to sign up” and really emphasizes the 3 aspect, and yet the text on that page says 10 people must sign up in order to get access to the next video! WTF???? At least give me a consistent message so I know what to do and what is expected of me!
Another annoying aspect for me personally is that I don’t have 10 friends who are into Internet marketing! So I’m screwed at the starting gate unless I choose to create a handful of bogus Email accounts on Yahoo just so I can get access to the 2nd video. Sigh! And I haven’t even done the doubl-opt-in or watched the first video yet!
The feels like another Bait and switch like ‘good old’ Mike Filsaime did with his 7-figure secrets BS about “no FORCED continuity.” Granted, if you read every word of the long sales letter VERY VERY CAREFULLY, you could find the little tiny opt-OUT box with light grey text on the sign up page WAY over to the right at the top and uncheck it so there was no forced continuity…. If you didn’t find it, you could always TRY to cancel your subscription…like I did. After 5 days of following Mike’s (mis)directions to cancel, leaving 8 messages asking to be called back, and sending trouble tickets into his help desk, I ended up calling my credit card company to cancel the subscription! That’s BS!!! I’m REALLY GLAD he’s leaving the Internet marketing info product space! I won’t be buying ANYTHING more from him anyway! He created so very much BAD-WILL with that launch, that I pretty much DISREGARD ANYONE HE PROMOTES TOO!
The only good news is that Karma catches up with slime-balls eventually!
So I’m off to send myself 3 emails on my “spam” accounts to see if that’s all I need, or if I have to create some more accounts! Wish me luck!

I’m sure it works if Kern is doing it, but personally I no longer bother to watch sales videos, particularly where there are no controls and no indication of video length.
At least with a long sales letter I can skim it and re-read relevant parts if I need to, but not so with long, boring sales videos where you have to sit through the entire thing to find what, if anything, is of relevance. No thanks, I’ve had enough.

Ya, I agree Alan. And it was interesting to listen to Dr. Kilstein’s presentation and get to chat with him about such things at dinner.
It’s kind of like watching commercials or infomercials on TV. I actually hate them but…when I’m subjected to watching them, I try to follow and study why they do what they do…

Thanks for the thoughts folks!
I think I should have worded the post and my email differently. I’m actually NOT an affiliate and I won’t make any money even if someone ends up buying this. Not in that good ole’ boy JV club I guess…
Anyone who opted in to see the Core Influence video (including me) is actually a “referrer” I guess and only gets the opportunity to get the second video by referring 10 people…whoopee!
My point here was initially just to highlight the technique of showing a video…getting an opt-in…and then IMMEDIATELY providing an easy way (and incentive – the second video) to spread the word.
As this launch has progressed, it looks like the Video Boss model. Give away some good content in several stages of the pre-launch process. I think I will definitely work on trying this for a launch of my own at some point.
Brad – Good point. I think there was a little confusion in the steps (even though I liked the screencast video explaining it). And about karma…did you see the Powered by Good Karma List Machine on the page? lol…
Scotch – Personally…I agree with you about no controls, long sales videos. I hate them! Lots of folks do and I’ve seen hard data from a couple of guys that says they work. Well, they might work a bit better (because the entire message is delivered) but I won’t be using them. FYI – The Core Influence and List Control video #1 all have player controls and a progress bar? So, I’m not sure your comment was about these videos?
Thanks!

Hey Lon,
Yes, this IS the second post from me regarding this post and topic! I finally took the time to actually watch franks LOOOONNNGGG video – it’s 1:58:40 long! AND WELL WORTH THE TIME SPENT TO WATCH IT!
I was expecting a pitch fest like most IM material today. Instead, he opened up and showed up totally as a PERSON WITH A MESSAGE, rather than an IM Marketer with a Message!
Kudos to Frank for having the courage to give that presentation AND to make it available to the broad market.
The bottom line of the video can be summed up as “what happens when you show up authentically.”
Go watch it. It’s worth the time.
And yes, I will be passing it along to 10 (or more!) of my friends who aren’t in the IM space, but who are in the marketing space … even if “marketing” means the day to day interaction between people. We’re all “marketing” in one way or another … and the second hour of the video in particular shows the benefits of “what happens when you show up authentically.” (Be sure to watch the first hour in order to get the most out of the second hour!)
Thanks for letting me “update” my previous post by posting again!

Hi Lon,
One other point, and I almost hate to say this for fear that things will change as a result! I almost always will use RealPlayer to download the video in order to be able to fast forward through it to the end to see if I’m even interested. Not only does it give me back the controls when I watch it from RealPlayer, but it also lets me know how long it is!
But if it doesn’t have controls and I can’t download it, I DO CLICK AWAY and never look back! They had their shot at me and my money, but THEY screwed it up by taking away MY CHOICE of how to view their message!

Hey Lon,
I appreciate the process used by Frank with his video. Curious to know your thoughts on if someone put up a No B.S. video that basically said…
“I’m not promising you that you’ll make $30K in two minutes or even $300 in 30 days. What I am telling you is forget the hype. Building a successfull business online or off takes knowledge, persistence, hard-ass work and commitment to make it work. Having a valuable product or service that actually over delivers on its promise is mandatory”…etc, etc.
Or do folks just want the “silver bullet”?

Lon -
This has inspired me to put together a video that draws in people who want to create videos to gather in other people that creates a mailing list of people who want to make videos that show people how to make videos to become affiliates.
Do ya think there’s room for this “angle”?
Or am I deluding the online video promotion hierarchy just a bit too much?
I anxiously anticipate your thoughts on this.

Hello Lon,
Thanks for the info on the Frank Kern Video. At this moment I do believe you can find some Gold here, but on the other hand it is kind of offensive, I find it like a great movie that has a great inspiration points but the actor or actors swear to much, so the question is raised is that really necessary….NOT!!!
Not saying I’m a Pollyanna but Dude what I’m saying is that to reach the “CORE” of your tribe then speak in a respectful way that ALL will receive it, and the last time I checked quality language is the universal CORE language…Oops did I say that?
Not trying to smash F.K, love his stuff just trying to speak to the CORE from my CORE.
PS- It is worth watching to get the nuggets, he does speak from the heart and is authentic.
Thanks

Brad – Good point and thanks so much for contributing!
Geoff – Tell ya what, your comment is really a pet peeve of mine. I’m getting really tired of people screaming for “free” and “easy”. Good grief! When in their lives has anything worthwhile (let alone life changing) EVER come free or easy? Whatever…I’m going to follow your advice and just skip the BS…and deliver the straight value scoop.
Jason – I certainly understand your point. Personally, being a bit of an old hippie/salty type, I could care less about his language. In fact, I find it honest and actually somewhat “normal”. Obviously, that’s just me and not everyone will thing so. I’m also not convinced that he doesn’t use it on purpose for effect…but who can say?
I would probably agree with you and err on the side of caution.
Thanks everyone!
Lon

We’re probably all overwhelmed with so many emails related to launches from different affiliates. It can be overkill for sure. Every now and again it’s time to filter out some of the affiliates for all these programs.
I really do like Frank. He seems one of the genuine guys and personally I enjoy the way he presents. Eventually we get to know who we click with and Lon I really like the way you offer valid useful information and it’s not at all in your face like and overdone as with so many others are.
When I see your well timed emails arrive in my in-box I’m ready to read it. I don’t skip over it or delete.
I also hate it when a video arrives and you don’t have a clue as to how long it is. Sometimes that will put me off watching completely. If it’s interesting enough I will watch it even if it’s done in segments. I would rather know – then I can plan my time to view.
